how i personally check these measurements. The most important measurement to check is the chest width. If you grab an old hoodie and measure just under the arm pits from one side to the other, you'll get your chest width.

The length is important too. close to the center of the hoodie from top of the shoulders to the bottom hem should get you a close enough measurement of length, but as long as chest width is measured like i stated an extra inch or two plus or minus from the bottom doesn't make much a difference, unless you thought your old hoodie was too short to begin with!
